Mandatory UK ETA for Visa-Exempt Travelers Starting January 8, 2025

Beginning January 8, 2025, the United Kingdom is entering ‘Phase 2’ of the Electronic Travel Authorisation (UK ETA).

UK ETA is an official travel permit introduced by the British government for nationals of visa-exempt countries. This authorization is mandatory for eligible travelers and must be obtained prior to visiting the UK for purposes such as tourism, family visits, business, transit, or certain Creative Worker activities.

UK ETA will apply to travelers from various nations such as the United States, Canada, and many others whom currently do not require visas for short-term visits to the United Kingdom.

It is important to note that UK ETA is not a visa but rather a pre-travel authorization.

  • The UK ETA must be obtained prior to travel.
  • It is required if you are entering OR transiting the United Kingdom.
  • It costs £10.00GBP per person to apply. Everyone travelling needs to get an ETA, including babies and children.
  • You will usually get a decision within 3 working days.
  • Your UK ETA lasts for 2 years. You can travel to the UK as many times as you want during that time.
