MEGAYACHTNEWS.COM JOINS THE GLOBAL #GIVINGTUESDAY MOVEMENT PLEDGES TO RAISE $5,000 FOR CARIBBEAN HURRICANE RECOVERY AID

20 November, 2017, Totowa, New Jersey USA: MegayachtNews.com, the leading independent website with a strong reach into the American luxury-yacht market, has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. It’s doing so via the #GivingTuesday for the Caribbean campaign. The goal is to raise $5,000 for much-needed hurricane relief aid.

Occurring this year on November 28, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The idea is to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

MegayachtNews.com decided to join the #GivingTuesday movement due to the destruction following Hurricanes Irma, Jose, and Maria. “The Caribbean islands are perennial favorites of yacht owners and guests worldwide,” explains Diane M. Byrne, editor of MegayachtNews.com. “They have given us in the yachting community—really, the yachting family—so much enjoyment and so many memories to cherish for a lifetime. In fact, I don’t know of a single yacht owner, crewmember, or industry representative who hasn’t visited the Caribbean, and who wasn’t shocked or upset by the utter devastation. Whether it’s Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, St. Maarten, or elsewhere, we have the power to help them get back on their feet.”

To that end, MegayachtNews.com intends to raise $5,000 through #GivingTuesday for the Caribbean by partnering with YachtAid Global. YachtAid Global is a non-profit with a proven track record of acquiring and delivering humanitarian aid to coastal communities in need or impacted by natural disasters in collaboration with a global network of volunteers, vetted non-government organizations, and disaster-relief experts. Already, it’s delivered 175,000 pounds of aid, including 750 water filters, 60 chainsaws and generators, and nearly 34,000 hygiene kits.

#GivingTuesday for the Caribbean lasts through December 28. “#GivingTuesday is so much more than one day in November,” Byrne says.

“We have been incredibly inspired by the generosity in time, efforts, and ideas that have brought our concept for a worldwide movement into reality,” says Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday. “As we embark on our sixth year of #GivingTuesday, we are encouraged by the early response from partners eager to continue making an impact in this global conversation.”
