THE ABACO BEACH RESORT AND MARINA STORY CONTINUES
The Abaco Beach Resort and Marina story continues. Currently, 20 guest rooms are available at pre-hurricane Dorian levels of comfort with others being added each week as rebuilding efforts are on-going.
Despite the destruction of Hurricane Dorian Abaco Beach Resort and Marina in the Out Islands of the Bahamas is coming back to life and will soon see the restoration of all rooms as well as new additions to the resort experience.
Right after Hurricane Dorian the island was in a state of near complete destruction. By October, however, the roads were cleared and cellular service returned. During the month of November clean up around the island and at the resort continued with both water and internet service restored to Abaco Beach Resort. Direct flights from the United States resumed in December as Abaco Beach Resort completed the demolition portion of its rebuild. The month saw the removal of all debris while reconstruction of the resort was ramped up and city power was reinstated.
Reconstruction efforts at Abaco Beach Resort and Marina are on schedule. A new, longer 250ft fuel dock is now available for use and a new weigh station and event marquee will soon be finalized. The dock rebuild and installation of electrical and water utilities is well underway. The marina is scheduled to be completed by April 1st. The previous kitchen location for Anglers will now serve as Abaco Beach Resort’s event catering arena and until the completion of a permanent structure, a temporary marina office has been created.
Abaco Beach Resort will have the entire room and marina inventory available by April 1st, 2020 in addition to all marina docks. A new, grand hotel reception building will await guests along with a new fine dining outlet. The aptly renamed Hurricane Pool Bar will now have more outdoor seating and in addition to drinks, will also serve food.
The White Marlin Roundup, THE SHOOTOUT, Production vs Custom, and the Custom Shootout will all be back starting April 15th through May 27th. Capt Skip Smith recently visited the resort and said the tournaments look to be sold out once again. “All the boat owners and crews are looking forward to returning to help support this area that needs our help!
Established in 1955 and just 165 miles off of the coast of Florida, Abaco Beach Resort and Marina captures the true essence of the Out Islands spirit. The resort is a destination for those seeking an authentic Bahamian escape.
Abaco Beach Resort is nestled on 40-beachfront acres in Marsh Harbour and offers its guests, both at the hotel and the marina, a variety of land and sea-based activities. The resort is located just five miles from the Leonard M. Thompson International Airport and is only a 50-minute plane ride from Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach.
